Ground Control’s decomposed granite is a 1/4-inch-minus fine granite aggregate suited to pathways, patios, utility-line shading, and other residential or commercial landscape projects. Its mix of fines and small particles can compact into a firm, natural-looking surface while still supporting drainage when the area is graded and prepared correctly.

How to Use Decomposed Granite

Installation and drainage

1. Prepare the base. Remove loose organic material, shape the area, and compact the subgrade. Base depth and preparation depend on soil conditions and expected traffic.
2. Add edging. A solid border helps keep the material contained along paths and patios.
3. Place and compact in lifts. Spread the material evenly, lightly moisten it, and compact each layer for a more stable finish. An appropriate stabilizer or binder can be used when a firmer decorative surface is needed.
4. Plan for rain. Grade the finished surface away from buildings and toward a safe drainage path. Avoid low spots where Southern Oregon winter rain can collect.

Weed control and maintenance

Landscape fabric may help reduce weeds in suitable applications, but it will not prevent every seed from taking root in surface debris. Periodically rake the area, remove weeds early, and add and compact fresh material where traffic or runoff creates thin spots.

Quantity, pickup, and delivery

One cubic yard covers approximately 108 square feet at a 3-inch depth before compaction. Actual coverage varies with the prepared base, compaction, and site conditions. Choose a half-yard or full-yard amount above, or contact Ground Control for help estimating larger projects.
